Genshin Impact Dragon Sovereigns

As the storyline of Genshin Impact progresses, a variety of previously unknown secret histories are also being revealed one by one. Of particular interest is Hydro Dragon: Neuvillette, which has recently entered the world. Today, I'll go into more detail to introduce you to the dragon sovereigns that have already appeared in the world and the mystery surrounding the dragon family.

Dragons, also known in their juvenile form as Vishaps, are enormous and powerful creatures that inhabit both land and sea of Teyvat. The Seven Sovereigns are the seven strongest elemental dragons of their respective element. The original Seven Sovereigns ruled the old world and held the seven elemental Authorities, but lost both their status and part of their powers when the Heavenly Principles came to this world and created a new order over the world. Their presence reflects the delicate balance of elements and power in the game world and is a witness to the previous prosperity and deterioration in the continent of Teyvat.

Vishaps are a species of dragon-like creatures that once followed each of the Seven Sovereigns with their corresponding elements and were formerly the dominant race of the world. Over time, they will evolve into true Dragons.

From each vishap species, the Seven Sovereigns will be born anew, so long as they remain biologically pure. They belonged to the Vishap Realm, also known as the Elemental Realm or the Light Realm.

However, there are only four creatures in Teyvat that are truly "Dragon Kings," so let's learn more about each of them individually.

Stormterror Dvalin: Anemo Dragon Sovereign

Stormterror Dvalin

Dvalin, also known as Stormterror, is an Anemo elemental dragon and the original Dragon of the East of Mondstadt's Four Winds. He has been the Anemo Archon Barbatos' friend for almost 2000 years and is the longest-worshipped of the Four Winds.

However, during the cataclysm five hundred years ago, Dvalin was grievously injured in battle against the corrupted black dragon Durin, and settled in the ancient god Decarabian's abandoned tower to recuperate. Over the course of five hundred years, the Abyssal poison in Durin's veins that Dvalin ingested continued to torment him, while the people of Mondstadt forgot him. When he finally awoke, Dvalin believed himself abandoned by the Anemo Archon and Mondstadt. The Abyss Order took advantage of this to corrupt his mind even further, inciting him to attack Mondstadt and earning the dragon the name "Stormterror."

Azhdaha: Geo Dragon Sovereign

Azhdaha

In the ancient past, Azhdaha was born from elemental crystallization as a Geovishap. The god brought the dragon above ground and granted him a pair of eyes to see the world. Eternally grateful for this gift, Azhdaha signed a contract with Morax that he would never harm humanity and Liyue, and that if he did, he would be sealed underground once more. Azhdaha accompanied Morax in the Archon War and fought alongside him to protect his people. At some point, Azhdaha began suffering from erosion, making him forget Morax and his love for humanity. This shift ultimately resulted in his attack on the Mountain Shaper, Moon Carver, which set off a fierce conflict that Zhongli ended. The tale of the Dragon King of Azhdaha, though sealed, is nevertheless spoken across the continent of Teyvat, signifying the struggle and intertwining of existence and fading power and memory.

It's worth mentioning that Morax's true form is also dragon, or more accurately, a half-Qilin, half-dragon form. However, Zhongli and Azhdaha are fundamentally different. Azhdaha is an elemental creature, and in essence, he is the same as Dvalin, Geovishaps, and the Seven Dragon Sovereigns of the primordial world. The difference between Zhongli and Azhdaha can be compared to the distinction between "carbon-based life" and "silicon-based life."

Apep: Dendro Dragon Sovereign

Apep Genshin

As one of the original Seven Sovereigns, Apep is a powerful elemental dragon who contains an entire world inside herself, within which she birthed and protected the first and most ancient elemental lifeforms of Teyvat. However, Apep's attempt to accumulate forbidden knowledge to fight against the Heavenly Principles led her to become contaminated by the very power she sought, which in turn corrupted her source of power — the Heart of Oasis — and the elemental lifeforms dwelling within her. Her dealings with King Deshret and the series of events show the complex network of relationships between dragons and humans, power, and knowledge in the world of Genshinimpact.

Neuvillette: Hydro Dragon Sovereign

Neuvillette

Neuvillette is the Iudex of Fontaine, and the leader of the Marechaussee Phantom. While Neuvillette upholds the rules of the court with utmost reverence, he is quite aloof when dealing with human emotions and often distances himself from the public eye. Despite his human appearance, he is actually the Hydro Dragon Sovereign. Not only does his appearance and tale highlight the close bond that exists in the game world between people and dragons, but they also highlight the duties and goals of being a dragon king.

Neuvillette's dragon form

Neuvillette's dragon form has yet to be officially revealed. However, during the Lantern Rite, Neuvillette gifted the Traveler a spoon he personally crafted, sparking speculation that it might be based on his dragon form. Additionally, in the latest official merchandise, there's a product called the "Neuvillette Tea Cup," which includes a small water dragon tea companion. From its hairstyle and accessories, it seems to bear some resemblance to Neuvillette. Of course, these are just speculations, and every Traveler may have their own imagination of what Neuvillette's dragon form looks like.

Alright, that's all for this episode! I hope it helps Travelers gain a deeper understanding of the vast world of Teyvat.
