Genshin Impact Barbatos: Story of the Anemo Archon Venti

by WongLucien 25 Apr 2025

The Thousand Winds surge, sweeping the land; where once stood Tower, now lie ruins. The ballad in the gale, myths of yore, sung through millennia - by the Bard, Venti.

1. Character Archetype of Venti

Barbatos, the Eighth of the 72 Demons of Solomon. Legend depicts him as an archer in a green hat and gray cloak, commanding thirty legions with four kings. He comprehends beasts' tongues, perceives past and future, reconciles conflicts between allies and rulers, and unveils magically concealed treasures.

His form - an archer crowned with emerald headwear and draped in ash-gray mantle - grants the summoner zoological linguistics and treasure detection. Observe Venti's design: a green-hatted, cloaked archer mirroring this depiction with striking fidelity.

2.1 Archon War Period

Long, long ago - some 2,600 years past - in the northern reaches of Teyvat stood Mondstadt. At its heart rose a tower, manifestation of Archon Decarabian's divine power. The haughty Archon reigned as sovereign from his spire, summoning unending tempests as the Lord of Vortexes to isolate Mondstadt from the world.

The cyclonic Wind Wall repelled even the Lord of the North Wind and bitter cold. Perhaps seeking no part in the Archon War, the Vortex Archon gazed from his tower upon subjects shielded from frost, mistaking their wind-bent postures for reverent prostration.

This titanic barrier blocked not merely chill, but even birds and soil. A youth born within the Wall dreamed of composing verse, yet knew neither azure skies nor winged creatures. Then Barbatos - a wisp among the Thousand Winds, an elemental spirit of wind capable of sowing fragile hope - heard his call, gathering falcon feathers for the boy.

When the youth yearned to see beyond the Wall and the people rebelled against the gales, Barbatos joined the Nameless Youth, the Nameless Knight, and Amos the Archer beneath the tower. There they swore an oath of freedom, vowing to shatter the Tyrant atop the spire.

The tyrant's throne was shattered in battle, yet he died believing his people adored him. The divine throne had fallen; tempests and Wind Wall dispersed. The former Lord of the North Wind, knowing he could not bring his people joy, infused his power into the land.

But the youth perished with the god's throne - the elemental spirit had not even delivered the feathers. As the Tower's ruler fell, Archonic power surged within the spirit, birthing Barbatos. His first act with this divinity was assuming the youth's form, for only thus could he strum the lyre.

Barbatos wielded winds to sweep snow from the land and carve mountains, aiding refugees from the old city to forge a new Mondstadt. Ultimately, they settled by Cider Lake, establishing the reborn nation. Unwilling to rule, he departed, letting Mondstadtians enact their freedom - as the Nameless Youth would have desired.

After stabilizing Mondstadt as one of The Seven, Barbatos neither slumbered nor ceased his journeys. He orchestrated a Liyue summit for The Seven. Of those original Archons, only he and Liyue's Geo Archon remain. His flute melodies once calmed a rampaging Yaksha at Dihua Marsh.

2.2 Mondstadt Aristocratic Period

Over a thousand years ago, Venti fell into slumber - possibly to resist erosion or conserve power - though the exact duration remains unclear. The manga suggests roughly a millennium. Perhaps stirred by Mondstadtians' pleas, he awoke to find his free city corrupted. The Lawrence-led aristocracy had overthrown the Church of Favonius, erecting spires and colosseums. They offered slaves and citizens as sacrifices to an evil dragon for protection, plunging the populace into agony. Even the Statue of Anemo was toppled and replaced by a spire mirroring Old Mondstadt's tyrant tower.

2.3 Leeward Pact

Awakening from slumber, Venti returned to Mondstadt to find the Anemo Archon's statue replaced by a spire - his former allies' descendants now mirroring the Tyrant they had overthrown. Disguised as mortal during the Windblume Festival, he provoked a Lawrence noble's heir, was pursued by guards, and was rescued by Vanessa, the "Undefeated Gladiator." That night, Vanessa was imprisoned. Venti drunkenly charmed the guards, forging friendship in her cell. The next day, her clan faced the dragon Ursa in the arena, promised freedom and rulership if victorious.

When Vanessa fought for her kin, Venti manifested divine power to repel the beast. But the Lawrences broke their oath. Yet Vanessa, now hailed as Mondstadt's hero, united the people in rebellion against the aristocracy.

During the rebellion, "Kreuzlied" and his underground organization aided the uprising, while the Gunnhildr Clan sided with Mondstadt's people. The righteous Dawn Knight "Ragnvindr" confronted his conscience, choosing justice. Unlike prior revolts, the Anemo Archon abstained from direct intervention. Vanessa united the masses, while the Leeward Pact - a treasonous contract where nobles bartered Mondstadt to the Geo Archon - triggered soldiers' defections. The pact bore Rex Lapis' divine seal, inconceivable for mortals to forge. Soldiers shuddered, imagining foreign enslavement. Years later, historians would expose the pact as counterfeit: Venti had perfected forging Rex Lapis' signature, though he never dared use it before the God of Contracts. His "dragon-slaying skill" found purpose centuries later.

To safeguard Mondstadt's future, the Four Winds system was established. These guardians would protect both the nation and its freedom. Venti and leaders appointed: Dragon of the East, Falcon of the West, Wolf of the North, and Lion of the South.

Here's an Easter egg: During Mondstadt's reconstruction, Barbatos strummed his lyre to assist Dvalin in blowing away the snow blanketing the land. This spawned the meme: "Do some real work, Barbatos!"

Genshin Dragon of the East

Five centuries later, the Anemo Archon witnessed the Cataclysm. Summoning the Dragon of the East to battle the venomous dragon Durin, Dvalin ultimately swallowed tainted blood and fell into slumber. Now tormented by the Abyss Order's lies and lingering toxins, Dvalin wrought dragonstorms until saved by the bard Venti and the golden-haired Traveler.

Mondstadt's most famed bard finished his odes to the Anemo Archon. Tuning his lyre, he pondered where to drink next.

Now for a lightning Q&A session addressing Travelers' burning questions:

1. How old is Venti?

Venti's age comprises two phases. The duration of his wind spirit form remains unrecorded, but he ascended as the Anemo Archon 2,600 years ago. His mortal guise is commonly acknowledged as 2,600 years old, while his elemental form likely predates this by over three millennia.

2. The gender of Venti in Genshin Impact

Venti's gender is male, though Archon gender concepts remain abstract.

3. How tall is Venti ?

Venti has a teen model body type, standing approximately 150-160cm tall.

4. Are Venti and Zhongli friends?

Venti and Zhongli have been friends for over two millennia, sharing a complex bond blending camaraderie with friction. Venti often teases Zhongli - forging his signature and sigils for wine money, even invoking Rex Lapis' authority in the Leeward Pact incident. While Zhongli begrudges these antics, he shows forbearance and nostalgia for his old companion. During in-game encounters, their banter carries undertones of mutual care.

5. When is Venti's birthday?

Venti's birthday is June 16.

6. Is Venti a Archon?

This is indisputable: Venti is Barbatos, the Anemo Archon among The Seven, presiding over Mondstadt.

7. What transpired between Venti and Xiao?

Venti is Xiao's savior. Xiao's character story recounts his near-death experience while purging demons in Dihua Marsh, when his karmic debt erupted. At this critical moment, Venti's flute melody pierced through, anchoring Xiao's consciousness and enabling his escape from peril.

8. Is Venti's Vision fake?

Venti's Vision is a replica crafted from a glass orb, capable of transforming into the lyre "Félin." This lore implies that as the Anemo Archon, he requires no Vision - the replica serves solely as a disguise.

9. Does Venti still hold pulling value?

Depends on version and team needs. Venti's crowd control remains potent against clustered enemies, though newer foes may resist grouping. As an Archon, his long-term viability persists - ideal for players lacking Anemo crowd control or prioritizing exploration utility.
