Capitano Genshin: Perseverance, Kindness and the Continuity of Human Glory

by Genshin Fans 12 Feb 2025

In the main storyline of Natlan, the most fully developed and favorite character must be the strongest executive officer from Eleven Fatui Harbingers, "II Capitano" must be on the top of the list, just like the other Harbingers evaluating him, he is resolute, upright, strong, kind, and possesses all the virtues that heroes should have.

In just three or four editions, he has established the image of a hero in the hearts of players, so today let's learn more about the story of this "human" hero!

Il Capitano's real name: Thrain

In the inter-chapter of the Nata storyline, a Nata warrior is infected with "Abyssal Corrosion Syndrome" after fighting the Abyss, and the captain cures the warrior with Draught of Lucidity.

Draught of Lucidity

The father of the warrior wanted to thank Capitano and asked him for his name, and Capitano almost gave his real name.

At this point Capitano may have remembered the time he fought with the warriors of Natlan 500 years ago, and perhaps something similar to what happened today may have caused him to almost give his real name. It is only at the end of the Natta story that we learn Capitano's true name - "Thrain".

Il Capitano

Il Capitano's past story

Traveler also only learns something about Capitano's story after he declares war on Ronova at the end. We know very little about the man himself, and can only speculate about his past through what we've heard in the main story.

Five hundred years ago Khaenri'ah was a highly advanced civilization that had developed a heart that could convert the memories and souls from the Ley Lines into knowledge.

This heart is powerful but has a serious side effect, it becomes sensitive to souls and is able to recognize the presence of souls around it.

Thrain/The Captain may not have been the only one to have his heart implanted, but he was the only one to survive the side effects, which must have been excruciatingly painful. Like the souls that escaped during the Ancient Name test, some of them will keep repeating their obsessions, some of them will be tainted by the Abyss and turn into monsters, and at any moment there will be someone repeating words in your ear that will cause psychic damage, and at any moment you will be in danger.

He went from a person living in the real world to a person walking in the cracks between the yin and yang worlds, this kind of life is worse than death, Thrain persevered with his own perseverance and force, and successfully harnessed this heart, that's why he uttered such a sentence at his ordination ceremony.

An unknown amount of time passed after the ordination before the plague of Khaenri'ah broke out.

Thrain, burdened with the curse of immortality, led what was left of his squad to Natlan, fighting and retreating.

The connection between the Il Capitano and Natlan

After Thrain traveled to Natlan and saw the Nathans fighting against the Abyss, Thrain decided to help the people of Natlan fight against the Abyss in the face of a common enemy. Ayizu, the leader of the "Masters of the Night-Wind" tribe, also gives him a lot of help.

I think when Thrain was deeply involved in the war, he probably split his group into several parts: the main force fought the Abyssal army in the "Masters of the Night-Wind" clan, while the other squads went to various clans to support them. The monument we found in the Children of Echoes sealing formation was erected by the clan elders in honor of the Khaenri'ah warriors who came to support them!

Thrain's team at the front line is also in a very urgent situation. The long time of fighting against the Abyss has led to an increasing number of people suffering from "Abyssal Corrosion Syndrome", and there have even been cases of fratricidal killings.

Guthred, the squad's medic and Thrain's trusted adjutant, died shortly after the development of Draught of Lucidity, after experimenting on his own body in order to develop a cure for mental trauma in a short period of time.

It must have hit the captain hard, and though they always argued, they wanted to protect the same thing - for the glory of Khaenri'ah!

At the end of the war, Thrain gave up the heart's ability to learn, and used it as a vessel to collect all the souls that couldn't return to the Ley Line because of the Night Kingdom's breakup into the heart, and began to search for a way for them to return with him.

Thrain traveled all over Teyvat but invariably failed in all of them.

During this time he also continued to follow Natlan's affairs and Mavuika's plans, and also during this time, for reasons unknown, he joined Fatui as Harbinger "The Captain".

The Captain Capitano

After joining the House of Fools she changed her name to Capitano, perhaps given by Cryo Archon like The Knave and Childe, or perhaps he changed it himself. Anyway he sealed the name Thrain, but he did not forget his goal. It took five hundred years before the time the captain waited for finally came.

Mavuika returns to Natlan to begin her five hundred year long plan, but after learning the details of Mavuika's plan, he doesn't believe that it will work!

After all, this incident is too similar to what happened to Khaenri'ah before, Khaenri'ah gathered heroes to fight against the Abyss, and the heroes ended up defecting to the Abyss, which ultimately led to Khaenri'ah's destruction. Now Mavuika is looking for heroes to fight against the Abyss again, and even the big battle is coming but the heroes haven't quite appeared yet.

With that in mind, he launches straight into Plan A. Ayizu, a former partner, had told The Captain about the secret of Gnosis, so he decides to grab it.

However, after losing the tournament to Mavuika, he decided to keep his word, and abandoned his attempt to seize Gnosis, and initiated Plan B - using Secret Source Automation to reconstruct The Ley Lines. it was here that The Captain revealed his experience in Khaenri'ah. It was also here that The Captain spoke of his experience on Khaenri'ah, not wanting Natlan to repeat the fear and despair that Khaenri'ah had experienced, and not wanting the residents of Natlan to go through the same excruciating pain.

But after hearing the thoughts of Pyro Archon, Ororon, and the Traveler, he decided to respect their opinions and would help them with Pyro Archon's plan.

After reaching a consensus, The Captain shared all the information he had gathered with Pyro Archon and gave Pyro Archon command of a portion of the Fatui under his command.

After helping Natlan defeat the Abyss, he and Yohualtecuhtin made a final pact. When Mavuika has to pay the price to Ronova, let him be that price, he will bring the warriors lodged in his heart home, and will take revenge on Rulers Divine.

Il Capitano Genshin

Why should all the people of Khaenri'ah pay the price for a felony clearly committed by Vinster King and The Five Sinners of Khaenri'ah, when so many innocents, including the Captain, who were unaware of the actions of The Five Sinners, were punished by being made to witness the demise of the things they loved? Enduring the endless torment of the flesh.

The Captain has to use his curse of immortality to fight the rule that he must die after using the power of Ruler of Death. If this paradox is not resolved, this event may even shake the foundations of the world's reasoning.

The curse of immortality is the punishment that the Ruler of Death has bestowed upon the inhabitants of Khaenri'ah at the behest of the Divine Principle, and the exchange of death for the power of the Ode of Resurrection is a deal she has made privately with the Xbalanque, and one of them must be given up if they are to be in conflict with the other. To revoke the curse of immortality and make Natlan pay for it would be a violation of the Divine Principle, a price Ronova could not afford, and The Captain could use it to force the Ruler of Death to give up making Natlan pay for his death.

At this point The Captain accomplished all of his goals, unlocking the curse of immortality so that his soul could rest in peace, no longer having to constantly endure the desperate screams of the people after death. He also changed the rules of Ley Lines so that his former comrades could return to Ley Lines and have a chance to be human again, and also allowed The Lord of the Night to be reborn from near-death. Completing the vengeance on the Ley Lines also gave the other Khaenri'ahn the possibility of lifting the curse as well, giving Natlan a better tomorrow.

The Captain genshin impact

Natlan, led by Mavuika himself, will not repeat the tragedy of Ochkanatlan, and The Captain can finally rest in peace. He guarded the land, the dignity of this place, and each and every one of our compatriots who fought alongside us.

In the course of Natlan's travels, we are introduced to The Captain, a true human hero who, with courage, loyalty, and wisdom in a human body, utilizes the curse of the gods to take revenge on the "Exalted Being". He is a true human hero, who has shown us his responsibility as a "Captain" by using his own strength for the glory of mankind to last forever.
