Genshin Impact Natlan: Essential Guide for Travelers

by Genshin Fans 30 Aug 2024

Natlan, known as the "Nation of Dragons," is the Pyro nation among the Seven Nations of Teyvat. Its main features include the coexistence of humans and dragons, as well as a strong emphasis on martial prowess. The country is composed of various tribes, each with its own unique culture and traditions. The guardian deity of Natlan is the God of Fire, also regarded as the God of War, symbolizing warfare and conflict.

In version 5.0, Natlan's new map is similar in size to the Sumeru Rainforest area and is located to the left of the Desert of Hadramaveth. It faces the desert terrain across the sea, with a nearly contiguous area that may require travelers to use a boat to cross. Of course, Natlan will provide an unlocked teleport waypoint, making it easy for travelers to teleport directly there!

Natlan Sights

The majority of the main open areas in the current version are rainforests, plains, and hilly terrain, with a lot of terrain that requires climbing mountains and crossing rivers, which is better suited to the play of Xianyun/ Kaedehara Kazuha /Wanderer /Furina and not so well suited to characters like Yelan, who move on flat ground! The other three new characters are all excellent in the Natlan run.

Some areas will feature magma landscapes known as "Liquid Phlogiston". Travelers should be cautious not to enter these "Liquid Phlogiston" areas directly, as characters will rapidly lose health in this environment. Only Indwelling that transform into the "Koholasaurus" can briefly move across it!

Natlan Animal Buddies

In addition to dragons, Natlan will also feature many cute animals! You'll see antelopes, penguins, capybaras, and more! It's practically a western grassland!

Natlan Animal Buddies

1. Long-Necked Rhino

People arriving in Natlan for the first time often think the Long-Necked Rhino is also a type of Saurian, but that is not the case at all. It's just big.

2. Alpaca

Fluffy, four-legged creatures with graceful and gentle personalities that get along well with humans. It seems beautiful and fluffy, so I wonder if miHoYo will eventually make Alpaca plush.

3. Capybara

These herbivores, which often dwell close to the water, are famous for their steely, stoic "won't even twitch if lightning strikes right next to their toes" disposition.

4. Thick-Feathered Ruffed Pheasant

Amedium-sized bird. Beneath its thick feathers is... a very thick, round layer of fat. Thus, it strains itself even by flying normally, and has been called a "Potted plant with wings that can't fly" by the Scions of the Canopy...

5. Flowcurrent Bird and Flowfire Bird

A peculiar bird that can walk on two feet yet cannot spread its wings to fly. Lively and friendly, and live without a care in the world.

During adventures in the Natlan region, a small Draconic Thorn Dragon will accompany the Traveler! Some mechanisms will require both the Traveler and the dragon to solve. You can also switch to the dragon's perspective for movement!

Natlan Mechanics

Nightsoul is a unique mechanism for Natlan characters. When a character enters the Nightsoul State, it is referred to as being in the Nightsoul's Blessing state. Their movement and combat capabilities may change, and different light effects will appear on the character model.

Natlan Character Mechanics

Nightsoul's Blessing is a combat and exploration mechanic related to Natlan. The "Nightsoul's Blessing”state , unique to Natlan characters, can boost the characters' movement and combat capabilities. In most cases , Natlan characters can enter this state by using their Elemental Skill. When in this state , they continuously consume Nightsoul points.

Kinich enters Nightsoul’s Blessing by activating his E skill, lasting for 10 seconds. During this time, his normal attack mode changes to Loop Shot and Scalespiker Cannon, significantly increasing his damage! Similarly, Mualani can enter Nightsoul’s Blessing by using her E skill. This state has no time limit but will continuously consume Nightsoul Points, ending when the energy is depleted. While in this state, her attack mode changes, and she can ride a surfboard for fast movement!

When the character enters Nightsoul’s Blessing state, it can also trigger the powerful bonus effects of the Natlan artifact! For example, consuming Nightsoul Points can increase critical rate by 40%, which can be considered a permanent effect!

Additionally, if there is a Natlan character in the team and the character deals elemental damage to enemies, it will trigger Nightsoul Burst! This will activate the talent effects of Natlan characters. Nightsoul Burst has a built-in cooldown, with the triggering interval being 18/12/9 seconds for having 1/2/3 or more Natlan characters in the team, respectively.

Generally speaking, if your team has only 1 Natlan character, Nightsoul Burst will only trigger once per cycle. However, if you include 3 to 4 Natlan characters, each character can trigger it twice per cycle! For example, Kinich's talent can increase the damage of Scalespiker Cannon significantly after a friendly character triggers Nightsoul Burst! The number of Natlan characters in the team directly affects the frequency of this talent’s activation! Mualani has a similar mechanism!

Additionally, Natlan characters, like Kamisato Ayaka and Mona, have an extra movement talent. This talent is named in the format " Night Realm's Gift Passive" and enhances their mobility.

In certain movement states, switching to a Natlan character will trigger Nightsoul Transmission: when the Natlan character appears, they will perform a special movement based on their abilities! For example, Kinich can be summoned mid-air, and Mualani can be summoned on water! Nightsoul Transmission has a 10-second cooldown shared by the entire team!

Here’s another key concept: "Phlogiston," a special energy in the Natlan region primarily used for exploration in the open world. Phlogiston can be replenished at statues, waypoint, or specific devices! Collecting materials can also replenish a small amount of Phlogiston!

The character’s Phlogiston value is displayed above the health bar. It can continue to be consumed instead of Nightsoul Points once the character’s Nightsoul Points are depleted! Therefore, if the route is planned effectively, the character can maintain the Nightsoul’s Blessing state as long as they reach the next Phlogiston replenishment point before running out of Phlogiston.

Nightsoul’s Blessing state

For example, Mualani’s surfboard movement consumes Nightsoul Points, and once Nightsoul Points are depleted, it will use Phlogiston to enable prolonged high-speed movement! The same applies to Kachina. However, Kinich’s Nightsoul’s Blessing state ends based on time, and having sufficient Phlogiston only allows continued use of the high-damage Scalespiker Cannon, without enhancing mobility.

To summarize, "Nightsoul State" includes the following 4 mechanisms:

  • "Nightsoul’s Blessing" activates the Nightsoul Points energy bar for the character.
  • "Nightsoul Burst" provides relevant talent bonuses for all Natlan characters in the team.
  • "Nightsoul Transmission" grants the character enhanced mobility and allows switching in mid-air or on water surfaces.
  • "Phlogiston" serves as backup energy for Nightsoul State; with proper route planning, it can sustain the Nightsoul State indefinitely.

Saurian Indwelling Guide

The saurian indwelling mechanism is somewhat similar to the Slusha in the Fua Luo Yuan region. By interacting with the Spiritscones on the ground, you can indwell the saurians and move with it! Different dragons have different skills, so travelers need to choose the appropriate indwelling target based on the terrain and mechanisms.

  • Teptlisaurus: Excels at scaling cliffs.
  • Koholasaurus: Excels at traversing the seas, but is poor at walking across the land.
  • Yumkasaurus: Excels at traversing at set points.

When approaching an adult Natlan saurians, its head will light up. Pressing the interaction button will allow you to Indwell the saurians, directly. Alternatively, after defeating a dragon, the spot where the dragon was defeated will leave behind a Dragon Soul. Pressing the interaction button while facing the Dragon Soul will also allow you to Indwell the dragon. There is no difference between the two methods of Indwelling, except that you miss out on the materials from defeating the dragon.

After Indwelling , your skills will be replaced by the dragon's abilities. The dragon can dash, jump, and attack normally. Elemental skills will be replaced by the dragon's special abilities: the teptlisaurus can burrow underground, the koholasaurus can surf, and the yumkasaurus can use grappling hooks. The elemental burst will end the indwelling. After exiting the indwelling state, the dragon will remain in place, allowing you to indwell it again. Indwelling has no cooldown.

There is no time limit for indwelling, but each dragon cannot leave its tribe's territory. When approaching the tribe's boundary, you will be forcibly ejected from the indwelling state.
