by Genshin Fans 28 Mar 2025

While many Travelers have glimpsed Kinich's story through the Archon Quests, these fragments barely scratch the surface of his character profile.

Kinich Character Profile

kinich character

Kinich, the Saurian Hunter of Huitztlan, is renowned in the Natlan region for his exceptional combat skills and keen insight. His birthday falls on November 11th, and his Constellation is Chimaera Alebriius. He wields a Claymore, showcasing his formidable power as a Saurian Hunter.

Kinich's appearance

Kinich's appearance is distinct and striking. He has jet-black short hair and gradient-colored eyes-green fading into yellow at the bottom-as if holding nature's secrets, leaving a lasting impression. His outfit blends Natlan's traditional motifs with modern hunting aesthetics: his headscarf flutters in the wind, gloves and bracers carved with intricate totems, and lightweight yet durable boots-every detail embodies his identity and personality.

What is a Saurian Hunter?

In Natlan, not every dragon harbors goodwill toward humans, and many have perished under vicious draconic attacks. Thus emerged the specialized profession of "Saurian Hunters," with Kinich standing as its paragon-steady, direct, and efficient, a natural-born predator.

Yet rumors suggest Kinich's services extend beyond this; with sufficient Mora, he executes wetwork with lethal precision.(Wetwork: primarily refers to violent covert operations like assassinations and coups, contrasted with "Drywork"-intel gathering and analysis.)

The backstory of Kinich

The backstory of Kinich

Kinich's upbringing was marked by hardships and setbacks, yet these experiences forged his unyielding character and exceptional survival skills.

Kinich's father was a gambler and alcoholic, leading to frequent clashes with his mother. Instead of quitting, he gambled away their home, forcing the family to relocate to a remote mountainside far from their tribe.

Without neighbors to mediate, the violence against Kinich and his mother escalated unchecked. Eventually, his mother fled silently under the strain, leaving the family's burden on Kinich-farming, hunting, and enduring beatings.

On his seventh birthday, Kinich asked his father about his mother's whereabouts. Enraged by the question, his father-eyes bloodshot from hangover-chased him outside. But years of alcoholism had weakened him; while pursuing Kinich along a cliffside, he stumbled and plunged off a cliff.

After his father's death, Kinich lived alone at the mountainside far from the tribe, sustaining himself through farming, weaving, hunting, and trading game at the tribe's market for essentials.

Kinich backstory

Yet fate hadn't wholly abandoned him. Elder Leik, one of the few in the Scions of the Canopy tribe aware of Kinich's family plight, proposed a unique deal: Kinich would attend the tribe's tutoring hut-where Scions' children began schooling at age seven or eight.

Elder Leik spent a month convincing Kinich to accept, but Kinich graduated in a single day!

To his classmates, Kinich seemed a wild child-forehead wrapped in ash-stained cloth, wearing crudely woven hemp clothes and a beast-hide skirt, barefoot and unkempt.

To Kinich, these brats lacked even basic survival skills-gathering to hero-worship as if proximity made them equals to legends, then scurrying home to beg their mothers for food.

Ostracized by the group, Kinich seized the chance to leave the tutoring hut.(This passage brilliantly subverts clichés with sharp social commentary.)

Yet Elder Leik never forgot young Kinich. Seeing echoes of past heroes in him, he struck a new deal to prevent Kinich from straying down a dark path.

Natlan kinich story

For years, Kinich lived between the mountains and Elder Leik's guidance. Beyond teaching Natlan's heroic histories and tribal legends, Leik connected him with mentors to hone his skills.

Compared to his irresponsible father and overwhelmed mother who abandoned him, Elder Leik became his true mentor. Without Leik's guidance, Kinich might never have grasped the meaning of "hero"-or worse, spiraled into darkness!

Kinich & Ajaw

The Ancient Saurian Ruins emerged after an earthquake, drawing considerable attention. An expedition invited Kinich, the Saurian Hunter, to join them-only to find the ruins overrun by purgations and riddled with traps, far deadlier than rumors suggested. The party was decimated: some dead, others injured or retreated. Only Kinich reached the depths alone.

There, Kinich encountered the sealed ancient entity "K'uhul Ajaw".

Kinich and Ajaw

Though sensing the malevolence in its voice, Kinich believed even dark power could be wielded. Ajaw sought to exploit Kinich to escape its millennia-long imprisonment.

After testing each other's limits, they forged an unbreakable pact: Ajaw would obey Kinich's commands and temporarily lend him power, while Kinich would free Ajaw into the world and surrender his body posthumously.

Ajaw is a genuine relic from the Saurian Era, dating back thousands of years. Its true form is sealed within a mysterious wrist engraving, while its current manifestation exists through Phlogiston.
