Genshin Impact Durin: Complex Family and Interpersonal Relationships
Hello, Travelers! With the Luna III version approaching, Durin is about to be officially released. I believe many players have been looking forward to this character for a long time and can't wait to learn about his capabilities! In this issue, I will organize the characters and settings related to Durin that have been introduced since the game's launch.
1. Genshin Impact Durin - Child of Gold
Rhinedottir, the legendary alchemist of Khaenri'ah, one of the Five Great Sinners, and the creator of the dragon Durin, is the first mother he remembers. According to the description of the event weapon "Festering Desire" from Version 1.2, Durin was once a wandering wisp of consciousness in the dark universe, plucked by Gold, who bestowed upon him a powerful and fearsome physical form, allowing him to be born into this world.

From his mother, Durin received his initial wish. He yearned for beauty and wished to show his splendor to the world, just as his mother expected. The newly born Durin became a tool for the mad Gold to demonstrate the power of the Abyss to the world. Carrying hope, he arrived in Mondstadt, a land of beautiful songs, but instead brought panic and disaster. In the eyes of the dragon Durin, he had simply come to a land where songs floated and fragrant grass grew, to sing joyfully with the people and dance with the beautiful jewel-like dragon. In reality, due to his body being tainted by the filth of the Abyss, this was far from a beautiful dream.
2. Genshin Impact Durin - Dvalin's Fated Rival
When the dragon Durin approached Mondstadt, Dvalin, then known as the Anemo Dragon and one of the Four Winds protecting Mondstadt, responded to the call of the Skyward Harp and engaged in a fierce battle. In the end, Dvalin seized Durin by the throat but also swallowed his poisonous blood. This event also marks the first time our Traveler demonstrates the ability to purify the Abyss in the main storyline. But why mention this? Everyone remembers, during the Archon Quest, how the people of Mondstadt referred to Dvalin when he awoke again, right? Correct - Stormterror.

The storyline has mentioned more than once that in Teyvat, a name is extremely important. Beings sharing the same name might even be drawn towards similar futures due to the bond of fate. Here, Dvalin being called a dragon and later restoring his original title actually shares similarities with Durin's fate. Of course, we will explore the more obvious connections between the two later.
According to the description of the Skyward Pride, the Anemo Dragon protected the people but was forced to endure loneliness, once lost and fell, even turning to evil. However, with the help of a sincere friend and new companions, he ultimately regained his original name.

This segment feels strongly reminiscent. In the Version 4.8 Simulanka event storyline, Durin, the Block Dragon living in the Shattered Sea, also aided residents who stumbled into danger but was forced into solitude because his body would pollute the fairy-tale world. In the end, he also gained new companions, shed the title of dragon, and reclaimed his name.

3. Genshin Impact Durin - Albedo's Brother
After the fall of the dragon Durin, Venti, fully aware of the dangers of the powerful Abyssal corruption poison, chose to utilize the purification power of the Divine Nail that had once descended upon the mountain and the perpetual icy cold of the area to freeze Durin's restless vitality. However, before Durin arrived in Mondstadt, Rhinedottir had discarded the flawed byproducts created during Albedo's making into its abdomen. These flawed creations were later revived, triggering the events of Version 2.3 "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms" and Version 5.6 "Paralogism."
4. Genshin Impact Durin - Andersdotter's Child
In the Version 4.8 Simulanka storyline, the witch M. Andersdotter names the child in her fairy tale Durin. Even though she clearly knows that after giving the same name, little Durin will follow the fate of the dragon Durin, be abandoned by the creator, and eventually fall silent in the remote mountains. But Andersdotter still wants him to have a happy ending in a different world. As the mother blesses, at the end of the story, little Durin finds his own friends.
In the Simulanka storyline, little Durin, with the help of language magic, receives blessings from the main characters of the story and successfully integrates into the Simulanka family. Two points are worth mentioning here: First, the blessing given by the Wanderer; he is willing to be Durin's friend and bless him to find his way forward. This is because the experiences of little Durin and even Durin have many similarities with his own life path. Similarly, this also echoes the "faithful friend" in the text of Skyward Pride that we mentioned earlier. To draw an analogy, the Wanderer is to little Durin what Venti is to Dvalin.

The second detail has already been addressed in the Version 5.6 main storyline "Paralogism." Because the Traveler is unaffected by the story of Simulanka, our blessing does not come from within the story but from outside it, granting little Durin the power to leave Simulanka and journey to Teyvat. It is precisely because of the mutual reflection and influence between the story of Simulanka and the fate of Teyvat that the destinies of little Durin, the dragon Durin, and the Wanderer have become intertwined.

The latest preview also mentioned little Durin's adventure: Durin must fulfill his mother Andersdotter's final wish, to see what different answer the mother provided within the story. This aspect was actually hinted at in the Simulanka storyline. In order to give the Durin in the story a better ending, she herself struggled for a long time until a cat stepped through three pieces of paper. It can be said that Andersdotter truly hoped for Durin to have a good ending, so let us look forward to this part of the story.

5. Genshin Impact Durin - Fated Rival of the "Prinzessin der Verurteilung"
Indeed, when the character artwork for Durin was released, Fischl's comment once again mentioned the Fell Dragon. This is clearly a light novel setting. However, considering that entities from the light novels, like Oz, can manifest in the mortal realm, the concepts anchored by Fischl have long cast their reflections upon Teyvat.
An existence born from the stories within the library-the connection between the Mondstadt library and the Hexenzirkel is something I need not elaborate on. This preview also mentioned that related character stories would be supplemented in the Mage Academy's curriculum. Hopefully, Fischl's part will reveal more details.

Returning to the Fell Dragon, as early as before the game's launch, in the April Fools' Day character preview for Fischl released by Genshin Impact, the Prinzessin referred to Dvalin as a Fell Dragon. This is the more direct connection between Durin and Dvalin that I mentioned earlier.
In the Version 2.8 Golden Apple Archipelago storyline, the part involving Amy revealed that the Fell Dragon might not be a specific dragon but rather a general term for anything that contradicts the Prinzessin's fantasies—her archenemy. As all things related to the Prinzessin transition from fantasy to reality, the concept of the Fell Dragon certainly holds significance. In this context, Dvalin represents an existence so powerful that it could potentially affect the Prinzessin's Immernachtreich.

The fact that Durin is called the Fell Dragon is quite interesting. After all, Durin itself is an existence born from fantasy. If it becomes something that contradicts Fischl's fantasies, it essentially negates its own reason for existence. And building good relationships with these individuals, as Albedo once remarked, means that after entering the world, one will also be bound by its people. It seems the complex social relationships Durin is about to face will be quite challenging to navigate!

This concludes all the content of this article. We believe this has undoubtedly helped all Travelers gain a more detailed understanding of Durin! Remember to stay tuned for our future articles and the merchandise on our site. See you next time!
