Genshin Impact Nefer: Name Origin and Character Analysis

by WongLucien 16 Oct 2025

In the new Genshin storyline, we got to know Nefer through the plot events, and I believe many Travelers have been captivated by Boss Nefer's beauty. Although we were already amazed the moment we saw her illustration, upon seeing her in-game model, we realized that the illustration pales in comparison.

The storyline not only showcases her beauty through numerous close-up shots but also perfectly reflects her personality and character traits. Today, let's take a deeper look into Nefer together!

1. Genshin Impact Nefer - Name Origin

In Egyptian hieroglyphics, "Nefer" is used as a phonogram representing the three-consonant sequence "nfr." In the Egyptian language, it carries the meaning of "perfection, completeness." Because of this, it was applied to many important goddesses (such as the Memphis Triad deities and Nefertem) and renowned beauties (like Ramesses II's most beloved queen, Nefertari). Elements associated with it are often connected to concepts of "beauty," "vitality," and "resurrection."

On Nefer's head, there are numerous "inverted triangle" patterns. This symbol also originates from ancient Egyptian culture. The shape of the inverted triangle was naturally associated by the ancient Egyptians with the female genitalia; thus, it directly represents femininity, fertility, life creation, and motherhood. Furthermore, it connects to many powerful Egyptian goddesses, becoming a symbol of the feminine principle, water (flowing downward), the "moon," and the power of "passivity/receptivity."

In contrast, the "upright triangle" generally symbolizes the masculine principle, the "sun," "fire" (burning upward), and active power.

the Seven Pillars of King Deshret

Although I had previously speculated from the perspective of her feminine features and wing-like headdress that Nefer might be a subordinate of the Goddess of Flowers or a sister to the Jinn, judging from a certain door within the Curatorium of Secrets, she should actually be a descendant of "the Seven Pillars of King Deshret" - specifically, the "Ibis King" Thoth, and she continues to adhere to her ancestor's pursuit by exploring the unspeakable "matters."

As colleagues who, alongside the "Crocodile King" Sobek and the "Goat King" Heryshaf, bore the derogatory title of the "Three Treacherous Ministers," Thoth differed from the other two subordinates who advised pursuing eternity, power, supreme authority, and wisdom. Instead, Thoth urged the monarch "Al-Ahmar" to seek lost history and unearth buried knowledge. Although this proposal was ultimately vetoed by King Deshret, considering how Nefer has now "put down roots" in Nod-Krai, a land scattered with fragments of ancient times, it is clear that the "Ibis King" did not "withdraw his hand" due to his monarch's rejection.

2. Genshin Impact Nefer - Constellation "Ludus Latrunculorum"

Nefer's constellation "Ludus Latrunculorum" is a two-player strategy board game originating from ancient Roman times, known as the "Soldier Game" (Lattrunculi). The name "Latrunculi" derives from "Mercenary" and "Soldiers," and another Latin translation, "Latrones," in a general context refers to "robber."

Its gameplay is considered similar to chess, checkers, or backgammon, where two players compete through military tactics challenges: the game board has 144 squares, both players have five rows of pieces to play with, and the pieces can also jump from one part of the board to another, encouraging players to cooperate through piece coordination and board deployment to set traps.

As a strategy board game, this game was also very popular in ancient Greece and is recorded in many Greek literary works. In some city-states, it was even used as a test for assessing citizen qualifications. Previously, in our research on another member of the "Seven Pillars of King Deshret," we connected that the character design of King "Al-Ahmar" is not solely based on the 72 demons and Egyptian deities but also incorporates homage to Alexander the Great. Therefore, elements related to King Deshret possess not only Egyptian features but are also infused with cultural elements from Arab dynasties, Rome, and Greece.

However, even Nefer, the owner of the Curatorium of Secrets, whose constellation is Ludus Latrunculorum and who occasionally makes a casual move, cannot avoid encountering the owner of the Yanshang Teahouse, who is skilled at throwing dice and rolling dice, sitting as the dealer and controlling the table. If it were not for the fact that a Fatui Harbinger, adept at opportunistic tricks, has already firmly taken the all-in position in Liyue's economic field, I would really like to see whether the experienced chess player who never misses a plan ultimately "calculates without omission" or the bold and generous casino dealer "operates like a god."

Genshin Impact Nefer

Overall, Nefer's storyline and appearance give a very surprising feeling. I wonder if after reading these character analyses, you have come to like her more? However, Nefer has just made her appearance, so let's slowly look forward to future content-there is plenty of time ahead! Of course, do not miss our more articles and in-site merchandise.
