Genshin Impact Snezhnaya Ecology Teaser Analysis

by WongLucien 25 Jun 2026

Let's take a look at Genshin Impact's Snezhnaya Ecology Teaser this time—there are quite a few details worth noting. What real-world references do these details correspond to, and what kind of new content do they bring to the game? Let's break it all down together!

Genshin Impact Snezhnaya Traveler

From the very beginning of the Snezhnaya Ecology Teaser, heavy snow is falling outside the window, confirming that we have arrived in Snezhnaya. At this point, the Traveler has already resonated with the Cryo Archon Statue, their body now glowing with the pale blue of the Cryo element. Paimon is sitting on a chair, holding her chest and clearly feeling unwell, having completely lost her usual energy. Despite being in visible pain, she still forces a smile toward the Traveler—a truly heartbreaking sight. It is worth noting that Paimon's discomfort here likely occurs after our arrival in Snezhnaya.

This is the Snezhnayan train station: stone steps, classical arched vaults, and very ornate decorations. The symbol above resembles a person with curly golden hair holding two swords. On the platform, we can see two small characters, possibly the Domovoy among the Snezhnayan Fae. This scene also appeared in a previous short.

The red high walls are easily reminiscent of Russian architecture, such as the grand cathedral at the center of Moscow's Red Square, with its distinctive onion domes. Its prototype may reference Russia's Saint Basil's Cathedral, which corresponds to Snezhnaya's emblem. Atop the spire, we can see the Azure Star, a symbol of Snezhnayan imperial authority. This location is likely the Zapolyarny Palace, where the Cryo Archon resides. Additionally, there are branches in the sky that appear to be formed by condensed mist—their nature is currently unknown.

This scene also showcases the NPCs' attire. The robes are quite interesting! The female character beside them is wearing a traditional Russian female headdress—the Kokoshnik.

In the following shots, based on their uniforms, these two characters arresting criminals are likely Snezhnayan official guards. Their hats are quite distinctive and called "Papakha." Notice their pointed ears, the wings behind them, and their color scheme—they are very likely Vilas among the Snezhnayan Fae.

Pay attention: inside the ice block, there is a figure sealed in solid ice, with cracks visible on his chest. He is likely a Volkodlak among the Snezhnayan Fae, specifically the Grand Duke Vodyanoy of the Volkodlak Alliance. He was pierced through the chest by the first Cryo Archon's spear outside the ice block, dying from the wound.

The camera then shifts to an environment that appears to be a mine. Snezhnaya has a city with a highly developed mining industry called "Novokitezhgrad."

The thunderous, lightning-filled area also appeared in a previous short. The ice branches in the center of the city, resembling bolts of lightning, stretch straight into the sky. The Traveler can also transform into electric current, attaching to these ice formations to move quickly.

This rabbit-like creature, stepping on dual blades and wielding a chopping knife, is likely also a type of Volkodlak. Here, paired with Stellar Superconduct, it demonstrates the core mechanic of the Cryo Traveler. The floating ice stars behind the Traveler can continuously deal coordinated Cryo attacks.

Then the scene shifts to a forest setting, introducing the Leshy among the Snezhnayan Fae. The Leshy possesses formidable strength. Just in case you weren't aware, the term "Leshy" had already appeared in events during the Sumeru version three years ago. The short also features the Cryo Traveler alongside the enhanced Yumemizuki Mizuki, demonstrating the new Stellar Swirl reaction. Stellar Swirl generates a star wrapped in an ice sphere on the field. It doesn't seem to unfold a domain similar to Stellar Superconduct, so the exact mechanics of Stellar Swirl remain unclear.

The large furnace appearing in the following scene may be a landmark structure located in Snezhnaya's capital city—Kresnik's Torch. It serves as the city's heat source.

Then the Traveler transforms into a "gun king." As mentioned in a previous behind-the-scenes short, as a Descender, we can experience a brand-new gameplay set in a special area. This likely refers to the shooting mode seen here. It was also mentioned that this is something only a Descender can do. I believe this doesn't just refer to firing a gun itself but specifically to the ability to fire bullets imbued with various elemental powers.

In this shot, we can see three crystals of different elements floating behind the gun: Pyro, Hydro, and Cryo. While performing a sliding tackle, the Traveler instantly switches between elements, triggering the Frozen reaction. In addition to shooting, there are also throwing weapons similar to grenades. This is something only a Traveler who has mastered multiple elements can accomplish. It is worth noting that after resonating with the Cryo element in Snezhnaya, the Traveler will have already accessed all seven elemental powers, potentially gaining new strength by then. The use of this multi-element rifle may be just the first step.

Finally, we see the council of several Harbingers. "Childe" simply gets up and leaves. There's also the revived "Sandrone," whose eyes have turned into gears. After "Luna VIII," she returns to the Snezhnayan council, teasing "Pantalone." Then "Pulcinella" makes his debut, still giving off a dignified and unapproachable impression. The Tsaritsa also attends the council, but her face is not shown this time.

Genshin Impact Pulcinella

The scene displays a floating castle. Could this be the real Zapolyarny Palace? And the higher you look, the more it resembles Celestia. In the short, the Tsaritsa speaks this line: "A tomb and birch trees, the Tsar's final tokens of affection." A tomb symbolizes death, referring to the end of imperial authority. Birch trees are Russia's national tree, symbolizing homeland and tranquility. This image depicts a birch grove quietly guarding the emperor's tomb. The Tsar's final tokens of affection represent a compassion that emerges from life itself after laying down power. The Tsaritsa conquers everything, yet in the end, returns it all to this land.

This line gives me a sense of tenderness before death, as if the Tsaritsa were reminiscing about everything that once was. Looking back at her cold, ruthless self after her drastic personality change, combined with the voice actor's weak and frail delivery, it makes me feel that the Tsaritsa's current condition might not be very good.

"A tomb and birch trees, the Tsar's final tokens of affection.

That which I set in motion, Ishall see to an end."
