Genshin Impact Vodyanitsa

As the opening character of the PV, Vodyanitsa is actually not a completely unfamiliar name to us. She was previously the author of the commentary on Linnea's character card, and the recently aired Sandrone animated short also mentions this Snezhnayan star—Miss Vodyanitsa, Prima Soprano of the Korolevskiy Troupe.

Bolshoi Theatre

Korolevskiy Troupe

The Korolevskiy Troupe is the highest-spec and most popular grand theatre in Snezhnaya. In the past, Colombina greatly enjoyed going there to watch performances (Harbingers enjoy the privilege of complimentary private boxes). The troupe's name derives from the Russian "Королевский," meaning "imperial, noble"—typically used to describe monarchs and their families, or an outstanding excellent thing. Thus, "Korolevskiy Troupe" literally translates to "Imperial Troupe," emphasizing its "imperial-level" performance quality. Its prototype likely references the Bolshoi Theatre (Russian: Большой театр), one of Russia's most renowned cultural landmarks, also known as the Imperial Opera of Moscow.

This pinnacle of Russian ballet and opera was originally constructed in 1776 and is world-famous as a core landmark for understanding Russian classical art and culture. The architecture showcases the ultimate opulent style of the Tsarist era. Over 160 years ago, the classic ballet Swan Lakepremiered here.

Vodyanitsa Name Etymology

The name "Vodyanitsa" (Russian: Водяница) is derived from the Slavic folklore figure of a female water spirit, "Vodyanitsa." Its literal meaning in Russian is "she of the water." This figure is often described as a green-haired beauty, sometimes also appearing in the form of a golden-finned fish. Vodyanitsa is generally considered a type of water nymph or female water spirit known as a "Rusalka" (Russian: Русалки), also translated as "Rusalka." She is also believed to be related to the river and lake god "Vodyanoy" (Russian: Водяной), also known as "Water-Grandfather."

Legend has it that Rusalki live at the bottom of rivers. They emerge at midnight onto the reed beds along the banks. Once they spot a handsome man passing by, they use enchanting songs and captivating dances to attract and beguile him, then lure him to the riverbed to kill him. This bears a certain degree of similarity to the Greek myth of the Sirens, who lured sailors with their songs.

Vodyanitsa: Water Fae Prima Soppara

Vodyanitsa possesses beautiful dark green hair, and the fin-like ears on her head along with the crystalline patterns on her body indicate that she is not human but a member of the Fae race. Specifically, Vodyanitsa likely belongs to the Water Imp clan, the Daklo's Clan, a variety of Fae created by the ancient Hyperboreans by splicing aquatic organism gene fragments.

Genshin Impact Vodyanitsa

Furthermore, the original leader of the Water Imp clan in history, the ancestor of all water-dwellers in the icy lakes, "Grand Duke" Vodyanoy, has a name derived from the Slavic river and lake god "Water-Grandfather" Vodyanoy mentioned in the research above. This further confirms Vodyanitsa's identity as a descendant of the Water Imp clan, the Daklo's Clan.

As the Prima Soprano and the soul of the troupe, Vodyanitsa possesses a breathtakingly beautiful singing voice. Performances starring her are always sold out, and even Sandrone, who always upholds ladylike etiquette, was moved to tears on the spot after watching Vodyanitsa's performance—a testament to Vodyanitsa's exquisite artistry.

Snezhnaya Vodyanitsa

In the PV, the stage set for Vodyanitsa's performance is a giant clam shell underwater, perfectly matching her identity as a Water Fae.

However, beyond her identity as a superstar and artist, Vodyanitsa has another side unknown to the public. After all, the Korolevskiy Troupe, as a gathering place for dignitaries and social elites, is also an ideal venue for gathering intelligence, exerting influence, and conducting covert operations. Vodyanitsa and her comrades will participate in Snezhnaya's political affairs according to their own convictions and methods.
