Genshin Impact Linnea and Lumi: Both Fae and Companions

In Genshin Impact version 6.5, the new Geo character Linnea made her official debut. Through her character PV "Companion on a Rainy Night," we are given a glimpse into the inner world of this pink fae from Snezhnaya, and we witness a heartwarming tale of acceptance and redemption between her and a small frost fairy named Lumi.

The Outsider in Human World: The Changeling Linnea

Linnea is a "changeling" from Snezhnayan legend, a concept originating from ancient European, particularly Irish, folklore. In these tales, the fae would secretly swap a human infant with their own child, leaving their offspring to be raised in the human world disguised as a human baby while the human child was taken to the fae realm.

Linnea is a child who was swapped and raised in the human world. Though her appearance is indistinguishable from a human's, the pair of wing-shaped, fae-like ears on her head and other physical peculiarities are constant reminders of her difference. To survive and fit into human society, she once spent a great deal of time disguising herself—always wearing a hat to carefully conceal her ears, imitating human preferences by buying dolls, and striving to amplify the similarities between herself and others. She once believed that by folding her wings away, she could blend into the warm light that did not belong to her. But things rarely go as planned. It wasn't until she decided to stop pretending, to face her own differences, that she embarked on an adventure truly her own.

The Outsider Among Frost Fairies: Lumi

Lumi shares a fate similar to Linnea's. It is a frost fairy, one of the six common types of fae in Snezhnaya. Because its appearance differs from other frost fairies, it often faces exclusion and bullying from them. To avoid being mistreated, it uses a paper bag to conceal its uniqueness, disguising itself as a "normal" frost fairy, living in constant anxiety and treading carefully.

Companion on a Rainy Night

Linnea and Lumi met on a rainy night. At the time, Linnea was traveling through the wilderness of Nod-Krai in her capacity as an advisor for the Adventurers' Guild when she happened upon Lumi, who was wearing a paper bag. After quietly observing Lumi's life, perhaps seeing a reflection of her own past, Linnea took the initiative to share her own story—her loneliness and struggles as a fae living in the human world. In the glow of the firelight, the shadows of the two "outsiders" gradually drew closer. Lumi, captivated by this lively adventurer, removed the paper bag and chose to embark on a journey with her.

Perfect Adventure Companion

Today, Lumi has become Linnea's most loyal partner in adventure. In daily life, the playful and adorable Lumi enjoys resting inside Linnea's adventurer's backpack, only emerging when hungry or when a fight is needed. It has no resistance to "shiny" objects, which is why Linnea carries a pouch of ores as snacks. However, the mischievous Lumi still occasionally swallows things it shouldn't, like Mora, and even almost ingested Linnea's Moon Wheel. Linnea loves observing Lumi's everyday antics and bakes cute little cakes, hoping to preserve Lumi's most adorable moments. Many players, upon seeing Lumi, have also been charmed by its cuteness and expressed hopes that miHoYo will release a Lumi plush, allowing everyone to bring this adorableness home.

Now, Linnea and Lumi have embarked on their journey across Teyvat. They are no longer lost, no longer hiding, but choosing to explore this world in their truest forms. As Linnea says in the PV: "Let us embark on this journey in our true forms. After all, the world's splendor is woven from its diversity."
